If you are beauty conscious, chances are that you use a number of cosmetics. Some trusts chemical based or some belief in organic cosmetics but do you know that sometimes the products you use may actually be doing more harm than good?

In fact, your hair starts giving warning signals if some product is harming it. In this article, I will explain the common warning signals that you will ignore at your own peril. So keep tuned to what your hair telling you. Keep noticing these sign of damaged hair to avoid hair-fall and permanent damage!

  1. Dry Hair: The first sign of using an inappropriate or excessive product is that of dry hair. Hair turns dry and brittle if the shampoo you are using is too harsh. Change your shampoo if this happens, choosing a milder, moisturizing one instead.
  2. Breakage: The next sign of things going wrong is hair breakage. Sometimes the culprit is using too much of a good product. Using a shampoo very often with protein or moisturizing agents, for example, will result in breakage. There is no need to use shampoo every day: just once or twice in a week should be enough. Try to use shampoos with natural, rather than those that contain chemical ingredients.
  3. Stiff hair: Chemicals in shampoos, conditioners and styling products make the hair stiff. Do not over-style your hair. If you are styling it, give it a breather for a few weeks and let it recover before you have it styled again. The solution is to oil your hair regularly or go for deep conditioning of the hair. This will help soften the stiff hair.
  4. White residue: When we use too much of a product, it will lead to product buildup and leave a white residue on the scalp. This will damage the hair and lead to hair fall. Remember that even if a product is good, do not over-use it: too much of anything is going to be bad for your health and lead to hair thinning. Go slow on product use and use a clarifying shampoo once in a while to get rid of product residues.
  5. Fading colour: Sulphates over-use will result in fading of your hair color. Read the product literature and if they contain sulphates, ask for advice. Also, use a moisturizing product to avoid dryness of hair.

If any of these things are happening, you can be sure that something is wrong with the products you are using. The best thing to do is seek the advice of a stylist or a doctor. Has your hair type assessed and look for recommendations for appropriate products? Even in the case of appropriate products, remember not to overuse them to avoid problems with your hair.

At the same time, follow a healthy lifestyle because sometimes hair damage starts with unhealthy lifestyles. Sleep well, eat healthy and exercise regularly for both good health and beauty. Follow your grandma’s advice on living well and oiling your head regularly. These simple steps will prevent damage to your hair.
